Senator Pierson,

Do you believe Citizens United is wrong and should be overturned?  The legislation suggested in this letter may do exactly that.  Here is the essence.  It is divided into two parts, the setup and the suggested law.  Both should be passed together.

Part 1 makes the case that the courts can only enforce existing law.  There is no existing law that declares or grants corporations the rights of personhood or artificial personhood.  That concept was made up by the courts, that cannot create law.  Therefore, court rulings protecting the personhood status of corporations can and should be ignored.

Part 2 then forbids corporations from taking any action to affect any election and explicitly making them subject to the laws of the states.

I suspect this concept has never been used in our history.  Before oligarchy destroys our democracy, please consider doing something for the first time.  Pass a law that disregards some bad behavior of the Supreme Court, and states why.

In 2016 California passed Proposition 59.  It recommends that California’s elected officials take action to overturn Citizens United.
